Promoting Basic Education for Children of Marginalised Communities of Urban Slums
Objectives
- Increased access and improve quality education for Dalit and Muslim girls
- Government becomes sensitive to and implements specific provisions to reach out to marginalised girls
Activities
In a nutshell, activities entail increased availability of quality education, particularly to marginalised girls and development of leadership amongst animators from the community to sustain the resource centres. Specifically, the activities are:
- Running of education centres
- Managing the Mobile Resource Centre through community support
- Provision of input supply material for education centres
- Community mobilisation
- Establishing linkages with state and district level government officials
Expected Results
- 15 Education centres run by skilled teachers under the guidance of Slum Education Committees
- Mobile Resource Centre is run for providing quality and equality in education
- Women leaders have mobilised the community for sending girls to schools and quality education especially for slum girls
- Improved teaching learning environment will help build children's and teachers motivation and also enhance the learning levels
- Children, teachers and parents will develop a good understanding of gender, class and caste based discrimination and how to address the same
- Quality documents on efforts done to improve quality education and their impact on slum children produced for sharing learning processes and replicability
